Well, even if your taste is not so inclined, the fact remains that it always helps to know which are the most dangerous cities in America and which are the cities that are considered largely safe and free from crime. While most of us are familiar with those cities that are safe in our own states, it may be helpful to know which cities are dangerous when you visit another city.

Top Ten Most Dangerous Cities in the United States 2010

Every year, the CQ Press releases a list of the most dangerous cities in the United States. In its seventeenth year, it ranked four hundred different American cities according to how dangerous they were. These cities were ranked in six varied categories, which were murder, assault (aggravated), burglary, rape, robbery, and vehicle theft. One category that was left out was larceny theft, which according to both, criminologists and the Federal Bureau of Investigation is no longer a true indication of crime. According to the rankings in these six different categories, the cities were then ranked as the most dangerous cities in the United States 2010. The list also used the Federal Bureau of Investigation's 2009 report on Crime in the United States. Given below is a list of those cities that emerged in the top ten ranks on the list of United States most dangerous cities 2010. The table gives you the rankings of the city in each of the six categories and also the overall ranking for the most dangerous cities.

If you compare this year's list of most dangerous cities in the United States 2010 with previous years, you will notice that there have been many significant changes which includes the ranking of St. Louis as the most dangerous city in the United States of America. There has also been a significant increase in the crime rate in Delaware, which has gone from being the seventeenth most dangerous state in the country to the seventh most dangerous state. Included in a list of America's most dangerous cities is not a distinction that any city would be very proud of. In fact, it affects revenue generation in a major way by having a huge impact on tourism. While such lists may often seem like a dig at the problems in the society, the fact remains that without such lists, it can be quite difficult to understand which area is in a major need for improvement.
